Nova Scotia Energy Research & Development Forum 2008
Research Poster Presentations
We invited students to attend the Forum and bring poster presentations highlighting their energy-related research to share with Forum participants. Funding was available to cover the cost of registration and accommodations for students who presented a poster at the Forum.
Each student was asked to give a brief presentation, maximum of five minutes, to a panel of judges and Forum participants. A prize was awarded for the best student poster in each of the four categories listed below.
Poster presentations focused on the following energy-related research categories:
- Geoscience & Engineering (e.g., offshore oil and gas, geological storage of carbon dioxide…)
- Renewable Energy (e.g., tidal, wave, wind, solar …)
- Environment (e.g., strategic environmental assessments, site specific environmental assessments, environmental effects of seismic acquisition …)
- Alternative Energy (e.g., biofuels, hydrogen …)
Students were judged based on the following criteria:
- Relevance of the research to Nova Scotia energy industry
- Student's participation in the research
- Student's knowledge of the subject and ability to discuss the material
- Poster presentation layout and readability
The poster prize winners were as follows:
- Geoscience & Engineering - Virginia Brake, Dalhousie University (Honourable mentions to Muhammad Kettanah and Omid Aghaei, Dalhousie University)
- Renewable Energy - Justine McMillan, Acadia University
- Environment - Elsadig Abdallah, Dalhousie University
- Renewable Energy - Mausam Verma, Dalhousie University

Call for Posters from Faculty and Researchers
We also welcomed research posters from faculty and researchers, however, non-student posters were not considered for the prizes.
Poster presentations focused on the following energy-related research categories (same as above):
- Geoscience & Engineering (e.g., offshore oil and gas, geological storage of carbon dioxide…)
- Renewable Energy (e.g., tidal, wave, wind, solar …)
- Environment (e.g., strategic environmental assessments, site specific environmental assessments, environmental effects of seismic acquisition …)
- Alternative Energy (e.g., biofuels, hydrogen …)
