Interactive Discussion Forum - Offshore Petroleum Development

  • Sandy MacMullin, Nova Scotia Department of Energy - Upstream Research and Development Priorities: Offshore Nova Scotia
    • This session was a forum where an interactive discussion took place between audience stakeholders and a panel of experts. The session started with each panel member taking 5 minutes to provide their own perspective on the immediate R&D steps that are required in order to better understand the petroleum geoscience of offshore Nova Scotia and thus attract more exploration investment. The panel was made up of an expert from NRCan (GSC), CNSOPB, N.S. Dept. of Energy, the private sector and an independent consultant.

The session encouraged constructive thoughts to be put forward and generated practical R&D initiatives that OETR, the CNSOPB, and both levels of government would consider in both carrying out their geoscience work and in funding new initiatives.

Interactive Discussion Forum - Need for a Sustainable BioResource Strategy?

  • Scott McCoombs, Nova Scotia Department of Energy - Need for a Sustainable BioResource Strategy?
    • This session was an interactive forum between our group of expert panelists and the audience. The session chair delivered a brief presentation/remarks regarding the topic for discussion and then invite each of the panelists to respond with a brief opening statement. Once the opening statements from each panelist were delivered, the floor was opened to questions/input.

This session led to some thought provoking dialogue that may ultimately provide some valuable insight/direction regarding the need for future policy work in this area.
